Joachim Badenhorst

The Belgian composer and saxophonist/clarinetist Joachim Badenhorst (1981, Antwerp) is active in the creative music scene in Europe, the US and Asia. He is artistic director of several ensembles in Europe and the US. He is a composer and arranger for the seven-piece ensemble Carate Urio Orchestra and the Icelandic quintet Mógil (with Icelandic folk texts and poetry).

Badenhorst is a member of several groups led by world-famous musicians such as the 'Han Bennink Trio', 'Tony Malaby's Novela', 'Thomas Heberer's Clarino trio' and ' Kris Davis' Infrasound'. From 2010 onwards, Badenhorst developed his solo program consisting of improvisations and compositions for solo acoustic and electro-acoustic wind instruments.


Badenhorst has released five critically acclaimed solo albums and can be heard on more than 50 CDs on internationally acclaimed record labels and founded his own record label KLEIN in 2013. He was named a Rising Star Clarinet in 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019 in ' The Annual Downbeat Critics Poll' (USA) and was chosen as clarinet player of the years 2011, 2013 and 2015 by international jazz critics in ' The Annual Intruso Critics Poll' (Argentina).
